With the internet, the world has become very small. Everyone is now linked closely to each other. Social networking websites have revealed that a friend’s friend is actually also a friend of yours. People also discover new friends using the Internet. Social networking, however, is not the only thing that the Internet is very good at. It is also useful for locating sites through websites such as Google maps. People can also locate people in real time using the Internet as well.
Enter the SPOT 2 GPS locating device. This is a handheld device that is designed to give out a person’s location through satellite. The device transmits the person’s location by request, and the user as well as other people can find where that device is located through the Global Positioning Satellite service. The SPOT 2 GPS device is very useful for people who are fond of hiking, flying, and camping outdoors. The SPOT 2 device can save lives, because once the user gets lost and needs help, he can simply send a message that will notify friends and families through cellphones.
At first glance, the SPOT 2 GPS locator is very affordable. The unit itself has a price tag of only $159, a price that anyone can afford. However, you are paying only for the unit itself. Using the GPS service carries with it a lot more costs and will increase your expenditures. Here are some fees that you can expect to pay when subscribing to the SPOT 2 GPS service:
Yearly usage
To use the GPS service for your SPOT 2, the basic fee can cost you $99.95 a year. For this fee, you get to send messages any time you like or any time you need to. You are limited to three pre-determined messages however. These messages are set upon registration, which is done by entering an authorization code and serial number. These items can be found in the battery compartment of the SPOT 2.
Google Maps Service
There is also an additional feature of the SPOT 2 service that allows your friends to track your location using the Google maps software. This feature can be accessed by adding $49.95 on top of your basic yearly fees. With this feature activated, your SPOT 2 device will send out your location to the satellite which then links the information to Google. Every ten minutes, your friends or family can follow your progress. If something happens to you, they can pinpoint your location by using the previous coordinate the satellite has broadcasted.
I say you can’t put a price on safety! I’m personally installing Spot 2 devices in all my airplanes now so I no longer have to sweat about students on their cross country flights
