Ask Jason – Understanding Airspeeds

by Jason Schappert

This week I had to take 2 questions! I literally have over 100 questions in the bank right now so I’ll more than likely be bumping the “ask Jason” segment up to once per week. Anyways, in this weeks video I take questions from Jeff (A Pilots Inner Circle Member) and Gilberto. Who both had question regarding airspeed.

Hi Jason, it’s Gilberto here. Thanks for the answer, I think I understand it much better now. So basically what I need is to have a table to convert IAS to TAS, right (as to take into consideration the deviations from the standard conditions)? Thanks a lot for the video and take care.

Great as usual Jason.   Funny that you mentioned about not seeing standard conditions – Just yesterday I was flying at Van Nuys CA, and barometer was 29.92 with airport temp  at 13 c (804 ft MSL – so I assume ~15c at sea leavel) and I was thinking to myself  this must be exactly a standard day.  :-)

Thank you for clarifying those things about airspeed. Yes, a lot get lost with the difference of  those facts. I guess I need to watch a lot of your videos for me learn more. Big thanks for your contribution to co-aviation enthusiasts!
